Back to the Basics
Hello there! Let me be the first to officially welcome you to the Mind Body Sport Meditation Podcast!!! Yes this is the second episode, but that previous post was just to put the feelers out. Now that I’ve gotten a few praises and good jobs, we’re the real deal.
Last time’s post talked about what my intentions for this podcast are. If you’re just joining us, this is the jist: I want you all to create some intentional time for yourself when you listen to my meditations and to apply a genuine, curious effort. Meet yourself where you are, and lend me your trust for a few moments. Then, you can go about your day as you please, but I promise it’s worth it.
Now to the ACTUAL real deal. Me!!! Hi everybody, I am Ruhi Dholakia, an exercise scientist, a mental performance coach, a certified personal trainer, a registered yoga teacher, and a mindfulness mentor. Try saying that fast three times.
I mention all of the above partly because I love a humble brag (why not celebrate your achievements!?) and partly because I still struggle with imposter syndrome. I also had to create that run-on sentence to tell my parents you were right.
I used to ask them multiple times why they couldn’t have forced me to be just ONE thing. Why couldn’t they have just decided for me? That would have made things a whole lot easier!! To this, they would chuckle and say “girl, we tried. You’re not meant to be in just one box.” I finally understand how you saw that as a good thing, not as existential doom.
Over the years, I’ve worked many random jobs, had more than everybody’s fair share of career changes (crises), and have had to start over so. many. times. Thus, existential doom. However, that doom has yet to find me because honestly, starting over so many times was the best thing I could’ve done. I was forced to go back to the basics, to ground myself in the art of a routine, and to build my foundation so versatile yet so simple that it can take me from being an infants teacher to a baker to a sales rep to a personal trainer. Going back to the basics has taught me everything.
So here we are for our second meditation. Going Back to the Basics. I had once randomly asked my dear friend Kelly “when’s the last time you counted to 60?”. She of course cracked up cuz #thatwasthegoal but she also allowed me to entertain that thought seriously. We both realized that even for one minute, we used a timer to make that time pass. What if we just counted to 60 instead? Wouldn’t the time pass anyways? That conversation, and Kelly’s evergrowing excitement to see my mind run free, has snowballed into this recording.
Allow yourself to go back to the basics. Meet yourself where you are rather than chasing what you aren’t. Each time we start over, we are allowing ourselves the permission to grow again. What a treat! And now, without further adieu, my name is Ruhi, let’s begin…
