Connecting with our Feet

Welcome back! I’m thrilled to have made it to the third post. It may not seem like that many, but I tend to have a habit of falling OFF a habit sometimes…

Wait, huh??? Exactly. Make that make sense to me too. I have a pattern of setting a fantastic goal or intention and even start to work towards it with all umph and gusto, only to find one way or another to quit.

Now I don’t quit the goal. I still complete that regardless of how much it stresses me out, injures me, exhaustes me, or how much I flat out hate it. The goal WILL be achieved, one way or another.

What I do quit, is the work. I fall off my running training for a race I CHOSE. I buy all the equipment for a great hobby and never actually make anything. I have the best idea!!!... but pitch it off for someone else to do. If I’m not good at it immediately, I stop. But if I notice any sort of progress, I stop as well. Like literally HUH?!?!?

In the last post, I talked about the power of starting again, of going back to the basics (episode plug, go read & listen). I am a seasoned PRO at hitting refresh over and over and over again. What I’m not so good at is actually keeping it going long enough to allow myself to feel GOOD when I inevitably accomplish the goal. Like… if suffering is CLEARLY an option, shouldn’t JOY be an option too?? *light bulb*!!!!!!!

So now what? Well, we need to connect with our feet.

When the going gets tough, when the mind starts to spiral and your thoughts are snowballing, we need to come back to where our feet are.

How do I know? I have dissected cadaver feet, I have worked at a running shoe store (shout out Fleet Feet Tallahassee), I have been a dancer where footwork is key, I am a personal trainer, I have worked in Physical Therapy clinics, etcetera, etcetera. Yes I know a thing or two about feet, ha-ha, but I also know ANOTHER thing or two about what happens to our mind and body when we DON’T connect with our feet. Dead and alive. So trust me on this.

Our feet are what take us everywhere. They are the first to clock in when we wake up and last to clock out when we fall asleep. Our feet have been working for SO LONG! but haven’t gotten to see their finish line!! I mean — even after we run a marathon, our feet walk us to the curb to take a break. But when’s the last time you rehabbed your feet?

That’s what we’ll be doing today. This podcast is more casual than the first two you have experienced. In this one, we’ll be learning HOW to connect with our feet before incorporating any of it in an actual meditation. To get comfy with the weirdness before embracing it. I promise you’ll learn a lot.

I encourage you to listen to the recording when you have space to be both standing and sitting while barefoot. No socks please :) #washyourfeet. (which btw I learned many people don’t wash their feet?! That’s nasty. Clean those dogs please as the warmup to this.) Enjoy!!!
